Curtains and drapes usually come to mind when people think about relaxing window treatments. Drapery can make a guest room feel more elegant and provide exceptional design and texture. We suggest layering opaque drapes and a room-darkening liner with sheer panels so your guests can sleep in if they choose, or they can enjoy sunlight without sacrificing their privacy.
Blinds
Whether you opt for hardwood, metal, or faux wood, window blinds with a fine finish give a touch of warmth to your windows. Since the slats of blinds are opaque, they provide excellent light control - but the ability to tilt the slats makes blinds one of the most flexible window coverings. If you prefer a solid color, we suggest a neutral tone like light gray or beige. White can be a bit too stark, and you don’t necessarily want your guest room to feel like a doctor’s office.
Roman Shades

- Use high-quality bedding. Nobody likes to sleep on thin, scratchy sheets or flat pillows, so investing in premium pillows or sheets with a high thread count is a bonus for guests.
- Don’t go overboard with color. You can use bold colors on the room’s walls or windows, but not both. If the walls are painted in a vibrant shade, stick with neutral colored shades or drapes with subtle patterns. Shades of green and blue are calming and always a great choice for bedrooms.
- Make sure the bed is not too large or small. Much like Goldilocks, guests in your home want a bed that is just right. If the bed is too small, it will be uncomfortable, but a bed that is too large for the space is just as awkward. Having to shimmy between the bed and furniture or wall is nothing to look forward to at the end of a busy day.
