Drapes vs Curtains: How They’re Different
You may use the terms drapes and curtains interchangeably, and while they are similar, they also have distinct characteristics. Getting to Know Curtains
Curtains use lightweight fabrics, including sheer material, and create a welcoming aesthetic in more casual areas of your home. They break just above the window sill and are an attractive way to accent spaces like playrooms, mudrooms, and kitchens. Cáfe-style curtains are a whimsical touch for windows above the kitchen sink because they give you privacy without blocking out natural light. Curtains usually don’t have a liner, giving them a more delicate appearance.
The Details of Drapery
When you think of drapery, you likely envision full, floor-length panels of luxurious fabrics, and you’re right on point. Drapery looks at home in formal areas, like a sitting room or the primary bedroom. Designing custom drapery near St. Petersburg, FL, begins with choosing a sumptuous fabric like velvet or silk and a light-filtering or blackout liner for light control and insulation.
The liner also lends structure to the drapery panel, giving it a refined look. There are a few length options, but your drapes should never break over half an inch above the floor.
